Amazonia i fotografia

„Dopóki ta kobieta w obliczu zbliżającego się pożaru nadal w skupieniu Miłość na ramiona przelewa, nie zasługuje Świat na koniec świata”…

Kilka lat temu odnalazłem tę fotografię przy okazji kolejnej edycji World Press Photo. To jedno z najbardziej niezwykłych zdjęć, jakie kiedykolwiek widziałem.

Live in the jungle” z 2008 roku. Otwieram książeczkę i czytam tekst sprzed jedenastu lat… „On their 2008 tour of Brazil the Scorpions joined with Greenpeace to urge the Amazon rainforest be preserved. In a round trip flying over the area the band’s musicians were able to see the beauty of the ancient forest – and its destruction – with their own eyes. The Amazon rainforest is a natural paradise of impressive diversity. Over half of all species of animals and plants living on land are found here. Through its ability to store carbon, the rainforest plays a crucial role in the global climate. If the forest disappear the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere will raise dramatically. Over 180 people close to nature – some 200 000 people – live in the middle of the Amazon area. To them Amazon is a living room, larder and chemist’s all in one. The forest provides these people with everything they need in their lives. And so, of course, they live in harmony with Nature. But this „treasure chamber” is being brutally destroyed. Trees are cut and burned down to make space for pasture for cattle and arable land. Almost 18% of the area’s ancient forest has already been irrevocably destroyed, and another 18% heavily damaged by logging. Scientists assume that if deforestation carries on at this rate the rainforest will in 2050 have disappeared . The consequences would be fatal. People would lose their homeland, animals and plants would die out, and the effect on the world’s climate would be like a bomb” . A więc odliczanie rozpoczęte…
